About

This is my personal blog where I like to blog about technology and other interesting stuff in life.

This past weekend I had my first and last Apple River experience.  I had a pretty decent time, however I don’t think I will do it again.  We went very early in the year so it was pretty cold and there were hardly any people there.  From the stories I hear of people’s past experiences though, that might have been a blessing.  We got there around 5 PM Friday.  My cell phone coverage was really flaky.  I am sort of a homebody and when I am disconnected from the world, that multiplies that uneasy feeling.  On Saturday I started the day off with a Bloody Mary (Breakfast of Champions) and a bagel.  We went down the river twice.  The first time, while going through the rapids, my tube went over a large boulder which nailed me in the back.  The swelling is finally gone today.  The second time we went down, it was very cold.  We were all tired Saturday night and went to bed around 10:30.  Now, if that isn’t a sign that we are too old to go to the Apple River, I don’t know what is.  On Sunday morning, at 6 AM, Wes and I drove back to St Cloud and got a bike ride in.  Not before getting pulled over on 94 for speeding.  No worries though, I wasn’t driving.  My driving record is still free from any tickets or accidents.  My goal is too get to 30 without any.

  1. omg.
you got off way easy. even if you did freeze your ass off {quite literally as it hung in the water as you floated along} i have always gone in july - in fact, one year we thought it’d be a sweet idea to go over the weekend of the 4th.
we ended up hauling some guy who’d had his head slashed open with a broken beer bottle up to the office area. IN MY CAR! ugh. the blood was atrocious.
anyway, we stayed at float rite. looks like you stayed at a place that at least had a cabin. ours didn’t even have flat ground to pitch a tent on.
oh! and it was also the same weekend that ozfest in town.

yes, you got off very easy. =P
